TWO CANADIANS. TWO BACKPACKS.
ONE SLIGHTLY IRRESPONSIBLE EARLY RETIREMENT PLAN.
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG.
TWO CANADIANS. TWO BACKPACKS.
ONE SLIGHTLY IRRESPONSIBLE EARLY RETIREMENT PLAN.
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG.

In 2025 we pressed the reset button. We sold our company, let go of everything we owned, and stepped into a completely different way of living.
We’re Ian (tall) and Alain (hat), a Canadian couple in our early sixties who decided retirement didn’t have to mean slowing down. Instead, we’re spending the next decade embracing a nomadic lifestyle as slow-travel nomads, settling into places like Southeast Asia, Mexico, and Europe for months at a time.
Our goal isn’t to rush through destinations or collect passport stamps. It’s to live inside them — learning local rhythms, exploring cultures and languages, and discovering the everyday pleasures of food, neighborhood cafés, and markets.
This lifestyle also allows us to stretch our Canadian retirement savings through geo-arbitrage, living well in places where the cost of living is lower, which makes it easier for us to enjoy our life experiences.
This site follows our attempt to redesign life after sixty — sharing what it actually costs, what works, what doesn’t, and what we’re learning along the way.
We’re documenting the experiment in real time, hoping it might inspire others to imagine their own version of a reset. And if our paths cross somewhere in the world, we’d love for you to connect.
THIS IS THE PLAN (FOR NOW)
Our itinerary is less of a plan and more of a game of Tetris—pieces moving, plans shifting, details changing faster than we can keep up.
Right now, we’re anchored in Southeast Asia until next spring.
After that: Canada, Europe, Mexico, South America, Australia and New Zealand
… before inevitably circling back to our favourite SE Asian haunts.
Fancy a meetup?
If we end up in the same place at the same time, let’s grab a drink.
Drop us a line and we’ll see if we can make it happen.
